Play in Action

When Bristol Council approached TinCat to help them with their latest project – Play in Action – I couldn’t wait to get involved. The aim of the Play in Action toolkit was to help people set up and run a play project in their neighbourhood. It had to be “messy and playful”, fun, accessible and useful, and it had to appeal to service providers and schools as well as parents and children. Above all it had to inspire people to go outside and play!

TinCat started by producing a logo and a colour palette for the project, followed by a series of hand-drawn illustrations. Working with copywriter Melissa Kidd to make sure the text was approachable and fun, I created a booklet of information about the scheme and some case study cards together with a folder to keep everything together. I kept everything to A5 size so that it was easy to carry around and reference when needed. Colours were bold and fun and the illustrations simple and lively to capture the different methods of play.
