Permaculture and Climate Change Adaptation

TinCat was approached by Tom Henfry from The Schumacher Institute who (together with Gil Penha-Lopes from University of Lisbon) was looking to create a book about Permaculture. Their mission: to bring the expertise of permaculture practitioners from the margins into the centre of policy debates and mainstream action in order to address climate change.

With a project so close to my heart in sight, I leapt at the opportunity to tender to design this book and I was delighted to have been selected over a number of designers across Europe. Always highly organised, TinCat was ready with a list of timescales, deadlines, recommended printers, suggested paper stock, fonts and formats, as well as strict guidelines for supply of text and images – essential when a number of different people and organisations would be contributing.

A fun and thought-provoking project, I chose earthy colours to define each chapter, interspersed with simple, hand-drawn illustrations, as well as some gorgeous photos (mainly courtesy of Carolyn Monastra) in order to bring the text to life.

This book is full of information about permaculture projects around the world: if you are interested in purchasing a copy just follow the link permanentpublications.co.uk

"Ruth is an absolute joy to work with and did a wonderful job on our book ‘Permaculture and Climate Change Adaptation’.

Totally in tune with the project from the start, she balanced responsiveness and sensitivity to our wishes with a wilingness to be forthcoming and proactive. She did what we asked of her with great skill and no fuss, and made many useful suggestions that enhanced the look overall. Highly professional in her outlook, she showed amazing flexibility in response to changing schedules and requirements from our end. The look of the finished book is amazing, and impresses everyone who sees it. I would certainly recommend her for similar work and hope to be able to collaborate with her again in the future."
